Join us on Thursday, October 10 at 6:30pm at the Driftless Historium (100 S 2nd St) for a fascinating look at (literally!) the fabric of local history. Hear about the makers and shakers of the Mount Horeb area, as represented in the unique and exquisite quilts they crafted or used. During the “Turn Down,” antique and vintage quilts from the collection of the Mount Horeb Area Historical Society will be stacked on a bed. Then, as each quilt is “turned down” and displayed, MHAHS Volunteer Textile Curator Marietta Gribb and Volunteer Curator Mary Spaay will share the unique story of each bed covering—who made it, when, where and for what reason? Construction, fabrics and patterns will also be discussed. Experience first-hand the meaning and story power that an artifact can hold--a great reminder that the preservation work of museums and historical societies is vital and important to keeping our history and heritage alive! This event is as partner program of the Mount Horeb Area Historical Society and Hands All Around Quilters. It is free and open to the public; reservations are not needed.
