  • WALLY KELLER MEMORIAL ART SCHOLARSHIP

    Wally Keller never considered himself an artist, but he was certainly an artist at heart. Folk Artist, sculptor, curator of a scrap iron menagerie, architect of Roadside Vernacular Architecture - Wally was all of those and so much more.  The Wally Keller Art Scholarship is offered to help the artists of tomorrow complete their education. Within a few weeks of the deadline, we’ll choose a recipient and the award will be announced at the Senior Awards Program.  The award is a $500 scholarship and will be presented to the recipient following their first semester of schooling. The scholarship requires a proof of completion of first semester and your fee receipt for second semester to the Chamber of Commerce.

    JORGEN MOE SCHOLARSHIP

    The Jorgen Moe Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to a Mt. Horeb Senior who shows leadership, scholarship, outstanding character, community spirit, and civic mindedness.

    The Scholarship was named for Jorgen M. Moe (1885-1958), who was affectionately known as “Mr. Mount Horeb” because of his many years of service to his community. He was born in Mount Horeb on March 22, 1885, to J. P. and Sarah Moe, both of whom were from Norway. He lived all his life in the house on Main Street that his father. Jorgen Moe experienced a lot of firsts for the village. He saw the first electric lights turn on in the village and talked on the first telephone. He witnessed the community’s first automobile start up and the first airplane fly over the village. Moe volunteered for a number of organizations. He was Secretary of the Mount Horeb Chamber of Commerce for more than 30 years and devoted himself to promoting anything that would benefit the village. He was active in pushing for the formation of parks in and near Mount Horeb, including Stewart Park, and was on the planning committee for many Fall Frolic festivals. He was also a correspondent for the Wisconsin State Journal for about 20 years, further helping him to promote the community. When asked why he works, and has worked, so hard for his hometown, he answered, “Why, I guess it’s just because it’s Mount Horeb, and I’m proud of it.”

    The Jorgen M. Moe Scholarship is awarded to a Mt. Horeb Senior who shows leadership, scholarship, outstanding character, community spirit, and civic mindedness. The Scholarship is presented by the Mount Horeb Area Chamber of Commerce, whose mission is to promote the economic well-being of all member businesses as well as to enhance the image of Mount Horeb as a great place to live, work, and visit.

    Students can apply by following directions from the Mount Horeb High School Scholarship Coordinator.
