MOUNT HOREB UMC INVITES PARTICIPATION IN ‘LEGACY OF LOVE’
Building Wall Display Will Honor the Past and Help Expand Church Ministries to the Community
MOUNT HOREB, Wis. – Mount Horeb United Methodist Church invites the community to be part of an ambitious project that will honor the church’s nearly 170-year legacy and help it grow and strengthen that legacy through expanded ministries and outreach for members and the broader community.
“Legacy of Love” will be a permanent wall display within the church to allow members and others who have a connection to MHUMC to recognize and honor individuals and organizations who have made a difference in their lives or the greater community.
Importantly, the project will help retire mortgage debt MHUMC acquired to make critically needed building improvements, including a beautiful and welcoming entryway/ gathering space and an elevator that improves accessibility between floors. Eliminating debt will enable MHUMC to focus resources on the church’s important mission and ministries and assist community groups it helps support.
The Legacy wall will feature a church history section surrounded by engraved wood blocks that individuals, groups of individuals or organizations can sponsor to express their personal sentiments. Blocks can recognize the donor or their organization; honor a loved one or their memory; commemorate an important date, such as a wedding, baptism or confirmation; or provide a personal message, favorite Bible verse, or line from a hymn or poem.
“We are inviting anyone who has or had a connection with the church to participate,” said Susan Wallitsch, co-coordinator for Legacy of Love. “Perhaps that connection was through a family member or friend, attendance at a wedding, baptism or memorial service, or participating in a community organization event hosted at the church, such as Neighbors Helping Neighbors, The Giving Tree, PFLAG or Boy Scouts.”
To sponsor a Legacy of Love wood block, the church is kindly asking for donations, which will go directly toward the church’s mortgage and elevator debt. For more information about Legacy of Love including block sponsorship pricing, please request a brochure by contacting Susan Wallitsch at swallitsch@gmail.com, (608) 509-2261, or the church at office@umcmh.org.
