January 27, 2020
Dear Business Owner,
Mount Horeb High School Library is currently establishing a reading challenge for staff and students to participate in. Capitalizing on the new year, our challenge is called
20 in 2020. We hope to encourage participants to read at least 20 books in the year 2020.
As you may know, improving literacy is one of our school’s academic goals this year. One proven way of increasing literacy is having students read books they choose that are at the appropriate level for them. The
20 in 2020 challenge will allow students to do just that: choose books they are interested in that are written at an appropriate level for them. In addition to supporting our literacy goal, participating in this challenge will encourage students to challenge themselves, to become more well read, to take a technology break, and interact with other students who are also participating in the reading challenge.
In just over a week of promotion, we have over 60 participants signed up. To incentivize participation the library is looking for donations of prizes from local businesses. These could be actual products or gift cards for services/products. All participants who complete the challenge will be entered into a drawing for prizes to be done at the end of the calendar year. If you would be willing to donate, donations can be sent to the high school care of Kimberly Hillary. Alternately, you can contact me via email (
hillarykimberly@mhasd.k12.wi.us) and I can arrange a time to pick up any donations you are willing to make. Thank you in advance for considering a donation. Please don’t hesitate to reach out should you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Hillary
