    Job Description
    Who is Gemplers?
    We are a Farm and Home business that supports business and consumers across the United States. We carry some of the best brands you know (Carhartt, DeWalt, YETI) and some that you should. We have a proud of history finding commercial grade products and we love serving customers. We believe we are a phenomenal alternative to the big box / conglomerates. Customers can purchase on our website or call and talk to one our friendly midwestern customer service folks. We are very proud of our 81-Year-old heritage and are in midst of an exciting chapter as we are once again family owned and fiercely independent!

    Where do we need help?
    We’ve come a long way since Bill Gempler started his Monroe, Wisconsin tire business in 1939 making easy mobile repairs for farmers. We now sell over 25K items out of our warehouse in Janesville and have hundreds of thousands of customers who depend on us to deliver the goods. In January of 2019 we opened a small office in Mt Horeb. We are expanding our team and will be adding a Category Manager.

    High energy person with incredible drive and relentless curiosity focused on how to grow a business. Someone who wants to be a part of creating something special. Well, not to put too fine a point on it, but a Rockstar who wants to be part of making Gemplers the best version of itself every day. No jerks allowed. The Category Manager has ownership of the strategy and execution of a growing business and is responsible for all aspects of merchandising and inventory management. This role will lead all phases of the product lifecycle within a group of categories, from assortment selection to inventory management.

    Job Responsibilities: • Partner with the marketing team to develop and execute advertising plans that drive customer engagement and category growth. • Maintain website merchandising to ensure exposure of the most important products and brands. • Develop a strong understanding of competitors and industry insights to maintain competitive positioning in the market. • Hold vendor line reviews to drive constant improvement in product assortment while identifying new opportunities for growth. • Establish, maintain, and grow strong external vendor relationships, including ownership across all supplier negotiations. • Demand forecasting and fulfillment including order creation, replenishment, and inventory strategy within receipt and inventory plans. • Responsible for all critical metrics for a specific group of categories including sales, margin, and inventory.

    Core Competencies • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple demands and projects • Experience working with partners from all cross functional areas in a business • Experience working with data mining and reporting tools; including Excel • Inquisitive personality driving the need to know and do further analysis • Self-Driven Motivated Individual

    Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field. • Experience working in merchandising, buying, and/or inventory roles within a retail business. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong knowledge of retail math • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment while being nimble and open to change.
