Calling all dancers, musicians, cooks, and folks who just wanna have fun! Join us for this very special evening honoring and celebrating the birthday of Folklore Village’s founder Jane Farwell (1.18.1916 - 4.6.1993).
During her lifetime, Jane hosted magical Saturday evening gatherings in the Wakefield Schoolhouse here at Folklore Village. Jane's Saturday Socials featured dance, music, games, and food all put on by volunteer power, and this annual social in her honor aims to recreate that same community magic! We'll enjoy some favorite Schoolhouse-era dances and music, plus classic and mischievous games in the memory and spirit of Jane. If you didn't know Jane, this is a really fun way to get a feel for the early days of Folklore Village and experience what is often referred to as the "Folklore Village magic." If you did have the privilege of knowing this enchanting woman, do bring any favorite Jane photos you can lay your hands on (be sure to put your name on the back if you want them back!) We'll certainly reminisce a bit, so be prepared to share a brief anecdote or cherished memory if you'd like. Dance requests accepted, too (let us know ahead, if you can)!
Volunteers are need to bring potluck dishes and play music as part of the Folklore Village Volunteer Orchestra! Contact Sallie Anna at programs@folklorevillage.org or 608-924-4000.
