Millions of people endure life without access to water.
When you sign up to walk in the Walk for Water, you help transform communities with the gift of clean water.
Join us this year in funding a safe water well for a small community in El Salvador.
On Saturday, May 2, 2020, the community of Mt. Horeb will rally together to give hope to those who lack access to safe water. It’s more than a Walk. It’s an event that will change lives around the world forever through the gift of safe water. Join hundreds as we walk and help provide access to clean water.
Why Participate? Every day, millions of women and children in developing countries walk an average of three miles to retrieve water for their family's daily needs. In most cases, after walking for miles, the water they retrieve to drink and cook with is from an open water source and it is often contaminated with pesticides and parasites.
The Walk for Water is a 5 kilometer walk that will simulate the trek that many people, often women and children, must do every day to get access to water. Walkers will start the Walk for Water at Grundahl Park with an empty bucket. Half-way through the walk, participants will fill their bucket with water from Stewart Lake and walk back for the remainder of the 5 kilometer course with their water.
By walking in this event, you join others to help raise awareness of the global water crisis and also to provide funds for a clean water well in a small village in El Salvador. Here is your chance to “think globally and act locally” right here in our community of Mount Horeb.
We hope that all participants in the Walk for Water will develop a better understanding of the challenges people around the world face daily in search of something that we often take for granted – clean water.
Onsite registration and t-shirt pick-up will begin at 9:00 am at the upper shelter at Grundahl Park, in Mt. Horeb. The Walk for Water will begin promptly at 10:00 am.
Proceeds: This fundraising event is sponsored by Immanuel Lutheran Church and all proceeds will go to Living Water International to be used to cover the costs incurred to drill a well in a small village in El Salvador that lacks clean water. It costs approx. $10,000 to drill a well in Central America with Living Water International. On June 13-20, a team from the Mt. Horeb/Madison area will travel to El Salvador to partner with Living Water International to help drill a well for a small community near La Paz, El Salvador that lacks access to clean water.
